The traditional 7-pin trailer connector is the one most commonly found on passenger cars and will do the job for most basic towing applications. First, we are going to explain what each of the 7 pins actually do, then outline under what circumstances you’re likely going to require this plug. Each of the 7 pins serves as a connection for a different output on the trailer itself.
Left hand turn (Yellow cable)
Reversing Signal (Black)
Earth Return (White)
Right Hand Turn (Green)
Service Brakes (Blue)
Stop Lights (Red)
Rear Lights, Clearance, and side marker lights (Brown)
A 7-pin connector will work for most traditional box trailers, smaller boat trailers, and typically any application that does not require any accessories to be run whilst the trailer is in use.
